What we think you know, you don’t know. What we expect you to know, you don’t know. What we want you to know, you don’t know. And, guess what, it’s not anything you are doing wrong. It’s on the leader. I once heard a leader described as an information pump. Their job is to take incoming information from a variety of sources and move it down to the team members, and then take information from the team members and move it up (or across). The problem is, if the “pump” isn’t pumping, then people are in the dark. People above the leader are in the dark. People below the leader are in the dark. We don’t know what the metric is for that one strategy, because you haven’t talked to us about the metric (or the strategy for that matter). Help your people feel like they are on the inside by pumping more information than you currently are. Help your team out-produce other teams by pumping more information than you currently are. Pump fearlessly! You can’t overdo it.
