A real mission does more than occupy space on some wall in your office. A real mission clearly identifies what the organization intends to do. A real mission inspires action because it is tangible. It is something that can be measured. It is something that can grabbed on to. It is something that, when used properly, motivates people. Too many of us are messing up our missions by pretending to be poets instead of simply, and clearly, stating what we are trying to do. Make your poetry into the vision statement. Make the mission your everyday work.
