What they didn’t tell me when I chose the role of dad, is the same thing they didn’t tell me when I chose the role of leader. Being “good” at it is relatively easy for a week or a month or a year. But even the best of us can get ground down after years of putting in our best effort. How seductive the short cuts become when we are exhausted. We can’t work ourselves out of this one. Rather, we need to be intentional about filling our own tanks as well. To show up at our best means we must take care of ourselves just as we take care of our team.
