Nobody remembers whack-a-mole effort

It’s 3 months from now-
Have you over maintained the spring/summer yard or have you started that one important business relationship?

It’s 6 months from now –
Did you return every email or did you start a challenging new initiative at work?

It’s 12 months from now –
Do you have perfect attendance at every meeting or have you earned that professional certificate?

It’s 18 months from now –
Remember 18 months ago? It seems like yesterday. What has been our mark on this world?

Every day we can choose to play whack-a-mole first and do important things second (or “as time allows”), or we can choose to do important things first, and all of that other stuff that doesn’t ever count second (or never).

Unfortunately, you can’t do both. Not reliably. The ephemeral and the big stuff don’t get along. The ephemeral yells at you daily demanding attention. The big stuff always just sits there and waits. We have to choose what comes first because that is what gets done.

So, what do you want to be remembered for?
