Tuesday Team Tactic:
Comment first on what went right.
You have a team full of brilliant people. And brilliant people get it. They understand that whatever the endeavor, there will be problems. Problems with the idea. Problems with the execution. Problems with the outcomes. Big problems and small problems. Hearing about the problems seems to mandatory these days. But, what if we first focused on what went right?
Just as every attempt has problems, every attempt has successes. Big successes and little successes. There is always a success that can be commented on.
What if we were the type of leaders who sincerely loved finding those things that worked well and then commenting on them?
What if we directed energy and attention to what is going right before we examine what could be improved?
What if we dug beneath the surface to really find the diamonds in any project, instead of just the coal?
If we did that, how do you think our team would feel, both in the moment and during the next initiative? How much energy could we create?
Consider commenting first on what went right.
