Leadership is fast becoming less about what you are in the organization, and more about who you are.
It used to be that the credentials were most important (like your title, your level of education, the initials after your name) and the person behind the credentials was less important. The person still mattered, of course, but not quite as much as the degrees or the recent experience.
Now we are seeing a rapid transition to who you are being most important, with your credentials coming in second. Credentials still matter, but who you are now matters much more. The pandemic is accelerating this trend.
What leadership skills should you invest in going forward? Your distinct leadership voice and philosophy, your EQ, your communication and storytelling skills, your humanity. This stuff is hard! It’s also the job.
