“There is no bad weather, only bad clothes.”
I heard this somewhere and wrote it down. Rang true for me at the time I recorded it. Still rings true.
It reminds me of a common problem. Many of us get derailed from achieving big stuff because of small stuff.
The half marathon training run was cut short not because we pulled something but because we were soaked.
The whole presentation failed because the projector blew a bulb.
Our vacation was ruined because the airline “misplaced” our luggage.
The point?
“Don’t allow little things wreck big things.” Yeah, but I sort of said that above.
The main point?
Small things always try to get in the way of big things. What if we just expected small things to show up? What if we expected the side ache on our next run? What if we expected the slide advancer remote to fail during our next presentation? What if we expected the hotel shuttle to be unavailable on our next trip?
If we can cultivate an attitude of grace knowing that small stuff always happens, then we can keep ourselves consistently focused on the big things that really matter.
