Infinity War started playing on my Netflix again (I don’t know how that happened!). And, while watching the scene with Starlord (Chris Pratt) and Thor (Chris Hemsworth) I was reminded of something Pratt said a while back.
An interviewer asked him about his “superhero” transformation from the overweight Parks and Rec Andy Dwyer to the lean Starlord. Pratt replied that nobody in Hollywood believes you can do a thing until you do the thing. For Pratt this meant that nobody took the idea of his personal transformation seriously until they saw the final result.
This thought has been bouncing around in my head for awhile. The value delta between talk and action. As in, one is valued close to zero and the other is valued close to infinity.
This concept is leadership. If you ask, “What will it take to lead the future workplace?” I would answer that we need women and men of consistent action.
To be sure, the people of action should be informed. But, it’s easier now than ever to end up in analysis paralysis. That’s the result of literally having access to all the information.
So the value going forward is not in acquiring all the information, it’s action. Value is with those who can show us what can be done. Let’s get to work.
