What workplace coaching is

Workplace coaching is about engineering the interaction to balance or even offload the thinking.

Team members come to leaders with questions. Usually the questions are sticky, hence the consultation. I encourage you not to answer. Even if the answer is right there, locked and loaded. Keep it to yourself.

Instead, guide a conversation. Discover where the friction is. Ask questions. Ask follow ups. Get them talking. By doing so you are offloading the thinking. You have smart people on your team. Tap into their brilliance.

Who knows. Maybe they come up with something way better than what you were thinking.
