Leaders: resilience required

It’s snowing here in the Seattle area. We don’t get a lot of snow, so it’s always fun when it drops by for a visit. I am looking out through our dining room window to the backyard. The bamboo we have out back is covered in snow. Beautiful. And bent over. The weight of the wet snow has many of the stalks pointing at the ground. It’s almost as if the bamboo is making sure that I see there’s snow building up. Yeah, I see it. Thanks! There’s something about bamboo in the weather. In the wind it bends with each gust, then returns to upright. In the snow, it bends as the snow accumulates, and then returns to upright. In the sunshine, it is just upright, bright, and lovely. When it’s too hot, the bamboo provides shade. There’s some lesson buried in there. A lesson about resilience maybe? Maybe it’s a lesson about adaptation. In any case, whatever weather is moving through your life, I wish you the patience and resilience of the bamboo. #leadership
